Overview:

This summer, Christ King Parish, in cooperation with St.Bernard's and St. Pius X, is sponsoring the construction of a Habitat for Humanity House. We have taken on all responsibilities related to the project - including coordinating and supplying construction volunteers to build the home as well as raising the funds required to pay for the home.

You don't have to be handy with a hammer to help! While volunteers are needed to help construct the house, no prior construction experience is required and on-site training is provided. Volunteers are also needed to make lunches for our construction workers and to help us raise awareness and funds for the project. Please visit the Volunteer section of this website to learn about the many ways you can get involved.

A Habitat house costs $60,000 to construct. Christ King, St. Bernard's and Pius X have teamed up to sponsor a home - meaning each parish is responsible for raising 1/3 of the home's cost - $20,000. Through generous donations from the Human Concern's Committeee and various other parish organizations we have a good start on our fundraising but we have a long way to go and need your support! Please visit the Make a Donation section of this website to learn how you can help.

Who will own the home we are building?

Milwaukee Habitat has selected Mleta G. as our homeowner. Mleta has a 12-year old son and has worked as a senior service representative at Sigma-Aldrich in Milwaukee since 1999. According to Mleta's application to Habitat, "I would like to participate in this ministry because I feel it is a great program and opportunity for me and my child to help the community. I enjoy helping others, and this is a great way for me to teach my son how it feels to help others. I need a Habitat home because I believe in second chances. I would like to have a home for me and my son ... a home that I had a part in building is a wonderful thing." Like all other Habitat homeowners, Mleta will be contributing hundreds of hours of her own time to Milwaukee Habitat.

Where is the home we are building?

The address of the home our group will be building is 2156 N 36th Street (a block south of North Avenue).

When will we be building the home?

Framing starts the week of June 18th, 2007. Construction will continue on the following weekends until the home is completed in the fall. Since Christ King is building the home in cooperation with two other parishes, we are coordinating our efforts with them when it comes to providing work crews to participate in the construction. If you would like to participate in the construction, please visit the Volunteer section of this website to sign up.
